This week, the Opera web browser became the first non-native browser made available in Apple’s Mac App Store, but only for those over seventeen years of age.

Apple may have been a bit too harsh to flag the application “17 and above” only due to “Frequent/Intense Mature/Suggestive Themes,” You can view erotic content through the Opera browser, it’s true, but you can do so with any other web browser too, including Apple’s own Safari.

Luckily, Opera took a humorous approach to things. Jan Standal, VP of Desktop Products for Opera Software expresses his “concern” about the 17+ rating of the web browser by stating:

“Seventeen is very young, and I am not sure if, at that age, people are ready to use such an application. It’s very fast, you know, and it has a lot of features. I think the download requirement should be at least 18.”

Opera then points out that you can simply download the browser even if you’re under 17 years of age. You only need to head to the Opera website to download the application directly. “We do not ask for your age or your credit card number. Please, get your parents’ permission before using this browser,” Opera says, taking another sly dig at Apple.
